Glencore’s Murrin Murrin Operations (MMO) and Wangkatja Tjungula Aboriginal Corporation (WTAC) RNTBC (Registered Native Title Body Corporate) have signed a Native Title Agreement that establishes a framework for a long-term partnership based on mutual respect, cooperation and recognition of native title rights.

WTAC is the Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) for the Nyalpa Pirniku people and represents their native title interests across approximately 30,900 square kilometres in Western Australia's Goldfields region where the Murrin Murrin operations are located.

The Agreement marks a significant milestone for both MMO and the Nyalpa Pirniku people. It provides a structured framework to support the protection of cultural heritage, lands and waters, while creating shared benefits. These include compensation entitlements, employment pathways and contracting opportunities for Nyalpa Pirniku people.

The Agreement also establishes clear and transparent processes for consultation and decision-making, ensuring respectful and meaningful engagement.

Murrin Murrin Operations General Manager Adrian Herbert said: “This agreement reflects our shared commitment to working in genuine partnership with WTAC. Together, we aim to support WTAC’s vision of caring for Country while creating lasting opportunities that improve the social and economic wellbeing of Nyalpa Pirniku people. We look forward to continuing to build a strong, respectful and trusted relationship over the long term.”

WTAC Chairman David Canning said: “This agreement is an important step forward for the Nyalpa Pirniku people. It recognises our connection to Country and creates a pathway for meaningful participation in activities on our land. WTAC acknowledges the constructive working relationship that has developed with Glencore and the Murrin Murrin Operations team throughout this process. We look forward to working with Murrin Murrin Operations in a way that protects our culture, strengthens our community, and delivers opportunities for future generations.”
